JOHNSTON, RI — The Johnston Sunrise today published a story on Rhode Island Lieutenant Governor Sabina Matos's efforts to keep aging Rhode Islanders informed and engaged by holding resource fairs at senior centers around the state. An excerpt is below:
"Seniors had the opportunity to speak with representatives from agencies concerning health care, veterans’ services, financial services and other necessities at the special Resource Fair on Feb. 20 at the Johnston Senior Center.
Lt. Gov. Sabina Matos, who helped facilitate the event, has been an advocate for seniors and applauded the efforts of those who represented the organizations for the work they do each day in their communities to help the elderly population.
'I see so many people who are here to help others,' said Matos. 'I know these organizations share information with each other, but none of it was getting out to the community, so we put together this event.'
She and state Sen. Ana Quezada (D-Providence) began organizing this event two months ago because they saw an ever-growing need to help the senior population navigate through social-service programs."
