Advisory Council on Alzheimer's Disease Research and Treatment Lieutenant Governor Sabina Matos believes that Alzheimer's disease, which is affects over 24,000 Rhode Islanders and their 36,000 unpaid caretakers, is a pivotal public health issue. The Advisory Council on Alzheimer's Disease Research and Treatment Council consists of dedicated researchers, advocates, clinicians, and caregivers. As Chair of Rhode Island's Long Term Care Coordinating Council and member of the Advisory Council on Alzheimer's Disease Research and Treatment, Lt. Governor Sabina Matos is committed to supporting those struggling with Alzheimer's. The Advisory Council is tasked with a range of responsibilities, including: Issuing information and recommendations on Alzheimer's disease policy; Evaluating state-funded efforts in Alzheimer's disease research, clinical care, institutional, home-based, and community-based programs; Recommending amendments to the State Plan for Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders; Coordinating training on Alzheimer's disease and dementia for licensed physicians and nurses; Coordinating healthcare facility operational plans for the recognition and management of patients with Alzheimer's disease or dementia.
