Operation Holiday Cheer

About Operation Holiday Cheer

  • Operation Holiday Cheer is an annual care package initiative organized by the Lt. Governor's Office for Rhode Island service men and women who will be away from home during the holidays.
  • The program relies entirely on the generosity of individuals and corporate and community sponsors who provide in-kind or financial contributions.
  • Contributions are collected from across the state and hundreds of volunteers help assemble the packages for shipment on a single weekend in November.

2021 Event Details

  • This year, to continue the tradition of sending care packages to Rhode Island troops who will be away from home during the holidays, we will host an Operation Holiday Cheer event in partnership with Rhode Island Blue Star Moms. At this time, we will be looking for donated items and funders to help support this initiative.
  • We will continue to direct our annual fundraising efforts to replenish the Rhode Island Military Relief Fund (RIMFRF).
  • RIMFRF assists our active duty, reserve, and National Guard military members and their families in times of crisis. Through an application process, families can receive a one-time grant to help them through difficult financial times. Learn more about the Rhode Island Military Family Relief Fund.
  • COVID-19’s impact on our state resulted in the activation of 500+ members of our Rhode Island National Guard to assist with the response to the pandemic. These men and women were redeployed from their regular day jobs and assigned across the state at COVID-19 testing and vaccination sites and to numerous agencies to support our safety and recovery efforts.
  • This year, your contribution to Operation Holiday Cheer will support both our active-duty military and the Military Family Relief Fund and help military members who have been impacted during this pandemic; many of whom left higher-paying jobs to protect and serve the citizens of Rhode Island.
