Housing Initiatives

Overview

Lieutenant Governor Sabina Matos has made housing a top priority of her administration. In her first term, she worked with Governor Dan McKee and the Rhode Island General Assembly to make a historic $250 million investment in constructing and preserving affordable housing across Rhode Island.

Lieutenant Governor Matos has championed the Fair Chance in Housing Act. The FHCA is a homelessness prevention measure that provides Rhode Islanders with barriers to housing a second chance. The Act protects those with credit issues or for nonviolent convictions older than a decade from facing discrimination while applying for housing.

OUR VISION

To ensure that every Rhode Islander has a safe, affordable, and accessible place to live.

OUR MISSION

By bringing together housing experts, community advocates, and residents, we strive to address one of the greatest challenges facing our state: the lack of affordable housing at all levels. We work to achieve this by influencing public policy, recommending alternative solutions, advocating for the investment of public and private funds strategically to address the ongoing housing crisis, and continuing to shine a bright light on the systemic inequities of housing in our state.
